Care for an 88-year-old gentleman, who weighs 55 kg and is 170 cm tall. The gentleman has dementia/Alzheimer's disease and recently suffered a fall, resulting in a fractured femur. He is currently bedridden and can only be moved to a commode chair with assistance. He has a catheter and uses diapers. Occasionally, he may see people who are not there, but he is not aggressive. His speech is also less clear. Complete assistance is required for dressing, hygiene, toileting, and daily care. Lifting is necessary during transfers, although the gentleman can cooperate a little. Available equipment includes an adjustable bed, wheelchair, commode chair, and walker. The house is almost entirely barrier-free. A caregiving service visits the household 2× a week for showering and care of the catheter and wounds. The caregiver primarily handles cooking, encouraging eating and drinking, emptying the catheter bag, changing diapers, and assisting with personal care. Night care is needed approximately 1× per night when the gentleman may wake up and call. His wife has been caring for him until now, but she has also suffered a femur fracture and is awaiting surgery and hip replacement. Therefore, she will be away from the household for approximately 2–3 months, during which time the caregiver will take over the care of the gentleman. The house is located in the countryside. There is no supermarket nearby, so shopping is arranged by the family. The caregiver has a private room with Wi-Fi in the family home. Free time is by agreement.

A caregiving course is not required for families in Germany, but you need at least some experience of caring at home. In Switzerland, most families require a caregiving course.
Finding a family is an individual matter for every candidate, so there is no exact time frame for when we will find you a family that suits you both. In some cases we can arrange a job within a few hours, at other times the wait is a few days. For families in Switzerland, the wait can stretch to a month because of high demand. We place candidates fastest in the summer months, June – August, and more slowly from the end of January to the end of March.
If you wish, we will organise your transport. We have worked for many years with transport companies that our caregivers are happy to use again and again. You can of course choose another way of travelling that you prefer. The caregiver pays for the journey herself and the family contributes to it – €180 – 300 in Germany, CHF 380 – 400 in Switzerland, depending on the offer. If you do not have the cash to travel to Germany, we can pay the fare for you and deduct it from your pay afterwards.
In Germany a standard assignment lasts 4 – 6 weeks, in Switzerland 2 – 3 months. Replacement assignments are shorter.
In Germany the pay is up to €3 500 a month as a self-employed caregiver – the exact amount is stated in each offer. It depends on your German, the client’s state of health and whether you care for one person or a married couple. In Switzerland the pay is up to CHF 3 500 net a month on a Swiss employment contract.
In Germany, families most often require intermediate to good German; some are happy with basic German and/or want another language, such as Czech, Russian or Bulgarian. Families in Switzerland require good German, although a solid intermediate level is sometimes enough.
